❯ Reliable Robotics adds $115 million in financing as autonomous-flight certification continues
The extension includes debtTechCrunch reported on October 20 that Reliable Robotics added $115 million to its Series D: $90 million in equity led by Nimble Partners and $25 million in debt from Silicon Valley Bank. The Series D now totals $275 million, with the company valued above $1 billion. The extension, full round and lifetime total should not be added together.
Retrofitting existing aircraftReliable develops autonomous-flight systems for existing planes, progressively automating engine startup, taxiing, takeoff and landing. It also operates a cargo airline. Existing airframes support a business built around retrofit systems and operations, but equipment certification and airline operating approval remain separate requirements. Flight demonstrations do not replace either.
Funding the certification intervalThe CEO expects certification of its first continuous-autopilot system in 18 to 24 months, while moving pilots to ground stations is at least three years away. Those are management estimates. The new financing funds research, testing and regulatory evidence over that interval. Its debt must eventually be repaid, and commercial results still depend on certification and customer adoption.
▮ SIGNALAutonomous aviation’s financing cycle follows certification and delivery, so technical progress does not immediately produce operating revenue.
