❯ Warp Sciences raises $215 million Series A for chemistry services using AI and robotics

From AI leadership to laboratory workWarp Sciences emerged from stealth on October 22 with a $215 million Series A led by Lightspeed. Its Business Wire announcement described a founding team including former OpenAI product and science leader Kevin Weil and co-founders with chemistry, AI and healthcare experience.

Customers pay for compoundsWarp is building a chemistry contract research organization, initially focused on analog synthesis for lead optimization. Research teams choose molecules to compare; Warp makes and tests them so customers can decide what to pursue. It explicitly has no proprietary drug pipeline, and customers retain control of their programs. Revenue would come from experimental services rather than waiting for its own drugs to reach the market.

Experiments feed the modelsThe funding supports laboratories, chemists and automation. Warp aims to connect AI planning, robotic execution and experimental results in a cycle that improves later work. Models may propose compounds quickly, but synthesis, testing and quality control remain physical constraints. Warp is financing that capacity. Faster medicine discovery is an objective, not an established clinical outcome.

▮ SIGNALAs AI expands demand for experiments, capital is building physical laboratory capacity that can charge for those services.
