❯ Tesla plans Cybercab sales by year-end and owner participation in Robotaxi in Q2 2027
Starting with outside fleet customersAccording to TechCrunch’s report on the October 21 earnings call, Tesla plans to begin selling Cybercabs to customers by the end of 2026. Engineering chief Lars Moravy said current production goes into Tesla’s own Robotaxi fleet, followed by small-scale customer deliveries as Tesla gains experience with delivery, ownership and fleet management.
A separate schedule for owners' carsThe Verge quoted autonomy chief Ashok Elluswamy targeting around Q2 2027 for the first customer-owned vehicles to join Robotaxi. In addition to shared driving software, those cars need integration with geofencing and fleet-management systems.
Different routes to revenueThe two-seat Cybercab has no steering wheel and is designed for ride-hailing. Owner participation would add eligible existing vehicles to the network. Consumer FSD (Supervised) still requires driver oversight, so an existing driver-assistance subscription does not itself confer eligibility to operate a driverless taxi.
Operating requirements shape availabilitySelling dedicated vehicles, releasing unsupervised software and admitting vehicles into a transport service are related but distinct steps. Local permits, vehicle-safety requirements, insurance and hardware compatibility affect availability. Tesla’s dates remain implementation targets.
