❯ Anthropic draft prospectus shows nearly $9 billion in first-half compute spending and possible $750 billion future spending

Current spending has risen sharplyA Bloomberg syndication summarizing the Wall Street Journal’s October 20 reporting says Anthropic’s draft prospectus shows nearly $9 billion of compute and infrastructure spending in the first half of 2026. That compares with $2.3 billion a year earlier and $7.3 billion for all of 2025. Expansion of Claude and Claude Code requires continuing access to computing resources.

The future total includes negotiationsMedia reports describe multiyear cloud and compute arrangements potentially reaching $750 billion. A syndicated TechCrunch report specifies that some deals remain under negotiation. The total is neither entirely signed, noncancelable contracts nor a one-time expenditure.

Net loss is not cash burnReuters’ reporting on the draft puts first-half net loss at approximately $80.7 billion, including around $72 billion of fair-value charges associated with convertible financing instruments. Rising valuation can increase those accounting costs, so net loss does not directly measure operating cash consumption.

IPO funding connects to future supplyAnthropic is preparing an IPO, with issuance details dependent on formal filings and market conditions. It must finance growth while securing future compute deliveries. Long-term agreements support supply, but matching revenue, contractual payments and actual utilization becomes an important investor consideration.

▮ SIGNALFrontier labs need capital for multiyear compute commitments as well as current research, making contract flexibility and payment schedules as important as growth.
