❯ Anthropic IPO draft reveals $16.3 billion in first-half revenue and heavy compute obligations
Revenue approaches fifteen times its year-earlier levelThe Wall Street Journal reported on October 20 that Anthropic’s draft IPO prospectus shows $16.3 billion in first-half 2026 revenue, versus $1.1 billion a year earlier. Two customers generated roughly one-fifth of sales. Demand for Claude models and the Claude Code programming assistant is taking the company to a substantially larger revenue scale.
Revaluations dominate the reported lossThe draft records an $80.7 billion net loss. Reuters’ follow-up explains that about $72 billion came from accounting charges linked to changes in the value of financing instruments. Those revaluations affect earnings without representing an equivalent cash outflow, making net loss an incomplete measure of operating cash consumption.
Capacity must be secured ahead of demandCompute and infrastructure spending approached $9 billion in the half. Potential spending to obtain more computing capacity could reach $750 billion in coming years, including arrangements still under negotiation. Revenue growth, customer concentration and long-term capacity obligations belong in the same analysis: Anthropic must secure supply early and build enough recurring demand to support it.
▮ SIGNALAssessing a model developer requires examining customer concentration, cash consumption and capacity obligations together; one earnings figure cannot substitute for all three.
