❯ Anthropic introduces Claude Duet to proactively track work and run tasks in the background
From prompts to proactive follow-upAnthropic introduced Claude Duet on October 21. The standalone app, built around Opus 5.5, prepares morning briefs, tracks connected accounts and keeps working after users step away. Its research preview is opening by waitlist to US Pro and Max subscribers on iOS, Android and the web.
Existing context carries overDuet inherits memory, skills and connected apps from a user’s Claude account. It works in a virtual machine with its own browser, so the user’s computer or phone need not remain on. Examples include checking unpaid invoices, preparing for client meetings, building dashboards and creating financial or sales forecasts.
Background work uses the same allowanceThe preview is included in existing subscriptions and shares their usage limits with other Claude features. It checks connected accounts every few hours, while larger tasks consume more model turns. Personal errands are currently less developed than work tasks, and users cannot yet see its browser.
Approval precedes consequential actionsDuet can read, draft and prepare independently, but shows the proposed action and waits for approval before sending messages, paying, signing documents or deleting content. Bringing context, follow-up and preparation into one workflow reduces the work of repeatedly briefing and prompting an assistant.
▮ SIGNALProactive assistants are increasingly competing on sustained work context, useful timing and a clear handoff from preparation to user-approved action.
