❯ Tenstorrent closes $1.5 billion Series E to scale manufacturing, servers and chip licensing
Capital for commercial scaleTenstorrent announced that it had closed a $1.5 billion Series E at a $6.2 billion post-money valuation, led by Trace Capital and Innovation X. Proceeds will support volume manufacturing, broader Galaxy server deployments and continued development of AI and CPU intellectual property licensed to customers. The financing is completed; the valuation measures the company after the investment.
Selling equipment and designsThe approximately decade-old business, led by Jim Keller, sells AI cards, workstations, rack systems and larger clusters. It also licenses processor designs to customers building their own silicon. Equipment sales require dependable production and delivery; licensing allows chipmakers to incorporate its cores into their products. Its open-source software stack is intended to reduce the work required to deploy models on its architecture.
Migration is part of the costCustomers considering alternative compute must evaluate model compatibility, tools, maintenance and supply alongside purchase prices. This round therefore finances commercial delivery as well as research. Competing with established platforms such as NVIDIA requires manufacturing and software to advance together. Licensing gives customers seeking greater control of their compute architecture another route beyond buying finished servers.
