❯ NVIDIA discusses further investment in Firmus as the cloud provider turns to private funding
A new route after the IPO withdrawalBloomberg’s report carried by The Business Times said NVIDIA was discussing an investment of hundreds of millions of dollars in Firmus. The company withdrew its IPO earlier this month. DCD’s follow-up put its private fundraising objective at roughly $2 billion to $3 billion. The new development is negotiations, not a completed investment or renewed offering.
Capacity must be financed firstFirmus builds and operates AI data centers and GPU cloud services. Customers buy compute, while the provider pays upfront for chips, power, cooling and construction. NVIDIA is both an existing shareholder and a major participant in its equipment supply chain. Continued access to capital therefore affects Firmus’ ability to expand and meet customer and procurement commitments.
Earlier funding remains separateDCD also described a $2 billion equity round in August and another investment in April. Those previous rounds must not be counted as this week’s new proceeds. Further supplier investment could support construction and equipment demand while increasing the financial links between supplier, customer and shareholder. The current round’s final size, terms and completion date remain undisclosed.
▮ SIGNALContinued financing determines AI cloud expansion, and supplier equity is becoming part of that funding structure.
