❯ Keyu Tian’s world-model lab reportedly raises close to $30 million at a $200 million post-money valuation, with no name or product yet

Money before a nameAccording to RuntimeWire, citing a Bloomberg report on October 7, researcher Keyu Tian has raised close to $30 million for his new AI lab at a $200 million post-money valuation, with backers including 5Y Capital and IDG Capital. Bloomberg said the lab has no public name or product.

First author of an award-winning paperTian completed a master’s degree at Peking University in summer 2025. He was first author of “Visual Autoregressive Modeling,” a 2024 paper by researchers affiliated with Peking University and ByteDance that NeurIPS named a Best Paper. Its method generates images from coarse to fine, starting at low resolution and stepping up.

World models must grasp physicsThe new lab is pursuing world models, AI systems that represent and predict how physical environments change. Bloomberg cited robotics, interactive video and autonomous driving as potential uses, none of them demonstrated products. Producing a convincing still image and simulating a coherent environment that changes as a camera moves or objects collide are two different levels of difficulty.

The benchmark is Fei-Fei LiBloomberg frames Tian against Fei-Fei Li. Her World Labs has released Marble, a model that generates navigable 3D worlds, said in February it raised $1 billion, and on September 28 announced a definitive agreement to join AMD. Tian’s round, by contrast, is a bet placed before any product exists; investors are buying his research record and his ability to assemble a team.

▮ SIGNALA single best-paper award can now support a $200 million valuation, which shows capital in world models is arriving at the stage where there are people but not yet a model.
